This simple recipe for rosemary garlic focaccia bread requires no kneading and results in a thick, beautifully golden, crispy exterior with a soft, fluffy interior.
Ingredients:
- 80 ml (1/3 cup) extra virgin olive oil
- 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon freshly chopped rosemary
- 2 teaspoons dry active yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon powdered sugar
- 1 cup (225 grams) lukewarm water
- 2 1/2 cups (300 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Prepare Garlic Rosemary Oil:
- In a small saucepan, combine the extra virgin olive oil, chopped garlic, and freshly chopped rosemary.
- Heat the mixture over low heat for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally until the garlic begins to sizzle. Be careful not to brown the garlic. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Activate Yeast and Prepare Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the dry active yeast and powdered sugar in lukewarm water. Let it sit for a few minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the salt and flour to the yeast mixture, stirring until well combined. The dough will be sticky and wet.
- Rising the Dough:
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise at room temperature for about 2 hours or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Spread a spoonful of the prepared garlic rosemary oil onto an 8×8-inch baking sheet.
- Assemble Focaccia:
- Transfer the risen dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Use oiled hands to handle the sticky dough and spread it evenly in the pan.
- Create dimples in the dough by pressing it with your fingertips. Pour the remaining garlic rosemary oil over the dough.
- Final Rise and Baking:
- Allow the dough to rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Bake the focaccia in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until it turns golden brown.
- Let the baked focaccia cool for about 20 minutes before slicing and serving.
Enjoy this delicious rosemary garlic focaccia bread with its crispy crust and aromatic flavors!
