How to Clean Tile Grout with Baking Soda and Vinegar:
Ingredients:
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Water
- Old toothbrush or grout brush
Instructions:
- Prepare the Area:
- Begin by sweeping or vacuuming the area to eliminate any loose dirt or debris on the tile surface.
- Create Baking Soda Paste:
- Mix baking soda and water to form a thick paste. Start with an equal 1:1 ratio and adjust by adding more water if needed. The paste consistency should be thick enough to adhere to the grout lines.
- Apply Baking Soda Paste:
- Use an old toothbrush or a grout brush to spread the baking soda paste along the grout lines. Ensure the paste is worked into the grout thoroughly. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes to penetrate and loosen grime.
- Prepare Vinegar Solution:
- Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle. The solution will fizz upon contact with the baking soda paste, aiding in the cleaning process.
- Apply Vinegar Solution:
- Spray the water and vinegar solution onto the baking soda paste-covered grout lines. The fizzing action will help lift dirt and stains from the grout.
- Scrub and Clean:
- Using the toothbrush or grout brush, scrub the grout lines once more, this time with the vinegar solution. Work in a circular motion to target stubborn stains and deeply embedded grime.
- Rinse and Dry:
- Thoroughly rinse the entire area with clean water to remove the cleaning solution. Use a clean towel to dry the tiles and grout lines.
Additional Tip:
- For particularly stubborn stains, consider substituting hydrogen peroxide for vinegar in step 4. However, always test this solution in an inconspicuous area first to ensure it doesn’t cause any discoloration.
