Ultimate Bolognese Lasagna Recipe

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the instructions on the package until they are al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef and pork over medium heat until they are no longer pink. Remove any excess fat.

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped carrot, and chopped celery to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are tender and the onion becomes translucent.

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef or vegetable broth, and red wine (if using). Mix well.

Add the dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend together. Adjust the seasoning if necessary.

In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese with half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well.

To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the Bolognese sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping them. Spread a layer of the Bolognese sauce over the noodles, followed by a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture, and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.

Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients, ending with a layer of Bolognese sauce on top. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the sauce.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake it in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves.

Slice the lasagna into portions and serve it hot. Enjoy your ultimate Bolognese lasagna!

Note:

You can customize this recipe by adding other ingredients such as mushrooms or spinach to the Bolognese sauce. Feel free to adjust the seasoning and cheese quantities according to your taste preferences.

  1. Can you leave the Ricotta cheese out and use graded cheddar cheese? We do not like Ricotta cheese? Thank you for your help.
